Increase in Dispute Resolution Levy
On Friday 21 July 2017, SAEFA, together with the other employer organisations registered with the MEIBC, concluded and signed an amended Dispute Resolution Agreement. The agreement underpins the payment of the Dispute Resolution Levy, which is used to run the MEIBC’s Centre for Dispute Resolution (CDR).
As a result, members must deduct and submit 71 cents per week in respect of weekly paid employees and R3,07 in respect of monthly paid employees, a weekly or monthly payment that must be matched (an equal amount being paid over) by the employer. Please click on the following link to view the circular from the MEIBC: http://www.meibc.co.za/images/pdf/CIRCULARDisputlevagreement240720172zzzz.pdf.
This will come into effect as from 24 July 2017.

Wage Negotiation Advisory No. 16
22 July 2017
As members are aware, negotiations commenced on 7 June 2017 with all of the employer parties to the wage talks being led by the employer lead negotiator, Jonathan Goldberg. The employer parties remained united until 6 July 2017, when we refused to make any further offers to the trade unions as we were receiving nothing in return. It was therefore agreed, by all the parties, that the next move would be made by the facilitator and that he would, after consultations with the parties, table a proposal for consideration.
IOL News: Numsa warns 'intransigent' employers of possible strike
Johannesburg - The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) on Tuesday slammed "intransigent" employers in the engineering sector and warned of a "total shutdown" in the industry.
This comes after Numsa declared a dispute with employers in the engineering sector following deadlock in wage negotiations last month.
Wage Update
17 July 2017
We have not yet received any notification from the trade unions of their intention to proceed on industrial action. It seems likely that the decision to give notification may only be taken by the trade unions at meetings scheduled for later in this week, making it probable that strike action will only start from next week or later. As previously communicated, we will keep members informed of developments.
