South African Engineers and Founders Association

The SA Engineers and Founders Association (SAEFA) represents the interests of hundreds of member companies in the metal and engineering industry. These companies range in size from very small employers to large multinational organisations. SAEFA not only offers a wide range of direct services to member companies but also represents the interests of our members at both industry and national levels. 

SAEFA’s direct services to member companies, available at a reduced fee to these companies compared to what a non-member company would pay in the market, include assistance on all matters affecting the relationship between themselves and their employees/trade unions – for example:

  • Dispute resolution, conciliation, mediation and arbitration services 
  • Advice, assistance, consultancy and training on labour legislation, employment conditions and all other Industrial Relations matters
  • Assistance is also provided with health and safety matters, broad-based black economic empowerment, contract price adjustments and skills development through our affiliate organisations

SAEFA also represents the interests of our member companies in all industry negotiations with the industry’s trade unions, not only on wages and other conditions of employment but also on the industry’s benefit funds which provide benefits to employees such as pensions, permanent disability and sick pay benefits. SAEFA has its own seats at the MEIBC, participating directly in all activities there.

MEMBERSHIP SUBSCRIPTION INVOICES FOR 1 JULY 2016 TO 30 JUNE 2017

Please be advised that all SA Engineers and Founders Association members have been invoiced for the current year’s membership subscription during the month of July. Membership fees are made up as follows:

EIPF AND MIPF CONTRIBUTION INCREASE 2016

Please note that, in accordance with the Industry Pension and Provident Fund Collective Agreement, the annual contribution increase programme gazetted on

3 August 2012 and the respective Fund Rules, the contribution rate for both funds increased from 1 July 2016.

The contribution rate for both employees and employers will increase from the current 7.0% to 7.1% of pensionable remuneration. Please ensure that your monthly return for July 2016 reflects this new contribution rate.

OUTCOME OF MEIBC MANCO MEETING HELD ON 29 JUNE 2016

At a meeting of the MEIBC Management Committee (Manco) on Wednesday, 29 June 2016, it was agreed, subject to a postal vote of representatives in terms of section 10(3) of the MEIBC Constitution, that the Registration and Administration Expenses Agreement ("Admin Agreement") be dealt with as follows:

Court judgment issued on 4 May 2016 in the matter beween the Free Market Foundation (FMF) (Applicant) and the Minister of Labour and others, relating to the challenge to the system of collective bargaining in South Africa, and more particularly to Section 32 of the Labour Relations Act, 1995.
