Shrey Ramkolowan Appointed as SAEFA Chairperson, Ushering in a New Chapter for the Metals and Engineering Sector

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Shrey Ramkolowan as its new Chairperson. An accomplished professional with extensive experience in industrial relations, HR strategy, and organisational development, she brings a dynamic perspective to SAEFA’s mission of supporting the metals and engineering industry.

Shrey steps into this leadership role with a resolute commitment to collaboration and progress. “I have always been driven to reshape the metals and engineering sector by fostering sustainability and addressing the critical challenges we face. SAEFA provides the platform to drive these initiatives at a larger scale, bringing together key stakeholders to collaborate on solutions that will shape the future of our industry. This role is an opportunity to create real, positive change for the sector and its people.” she shares.

With more than 12 years of experience in HR, IR and organisational development, Shrey’s professional journey has equipped her with a comprehensive understanding of the sector’s needs. Her expertise will complement the strong foundation already established by SAEFA’s Executive Director, Gordon Angus, and the broader team.

Navigating Industry Challenges
South Africa’s metals and engineering sector is at a pivotal juncture, facing pressures such as skills shortages, supply chain uncertainties, and regulatory demands. SAEFA will continue to advocate for solutions that drive operational efficiency, strengthen workforce capabilities, and foster sustainability. Shrey is a proponent of collective action, echoing SAEFA’s commitment to creating a collaborative environment. The strength of our industry lies in our ability to work together, not as isolated entities, but as a cohesive community. In Japan, the concept of “wa” — harmony — is fundamental to both business and society. It emphasises the importance of collaboration, where individuals put the group’s well-being ahead of personal interests. Similarly, in our industry, when we face complex challenges, we must come together as a unified force. By standing together, with a shared commitment to resolving challenges and improving the industry, we can create an environment where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. This collective spirit can become the foundation for transforming our sector into one that is resilient, sustainable, and globally competitive.”.

As Chairperson, Shrey envisions SAEFA playing a critical role in positioning South Africa’s metals and engineering sector as a global leader. Her strategic focus includes promoting sustainability, enhancing skills development, and advocating for policies that enable long-term success.

“By fostering collaboration, championing continuous improvement, and advocating for sustainable practices, SAEFA will empower the industry to adapt, innovate, and thrive. I urge more companies to join our community and be part of the movement—together, we can shape the future of manufacturing in South Africa. Shrey asserts.

SAEFA remains steadfast in its dedication to serving its members and advancing the interests of the broader industry.
