Effective Workplace Discipline Workshop 11 February 2026

Avoid costly mistakes when disciplining employees.

Many employers still lose CCMA and bargaining council cases due to avoidable errors in workplace discipline — often despite having valid reasons to act.

To help employers get it right the first time, SAEFA, in association with Gordon Angus & Associates, invites you to attend a practical one-day workshop on workplace discipline and dismissals.

WORKSHOP: EFFECTIVE WORKPLACE DISCIPLINE – GETTING IT RIGHT

From Counselling to Dismissals

This workshop provides clear, practical guidance on applying the discipline provisions of the Labour Relations Act, with a strong focus on procedural and substantive fairness and the correct conduct of disciplinary enquiries.

Key topics include:

• Fair and effective discipline
• Progressive discipline and sanctions
• Issuing warnings correctly
• Substantive vs procedural fairness
• What constitutes a “dismissal”
• Preparing for and conducting disciplinary enquiries
• Drafting charges and presenting evidence
• Roles of participants at enquiries
• Verdicts, mitigation, aggravation and penalties
• Appeals and testing fairness
• Practical guidance on common disciplinary offences
(absenteeism, theft, insubordination, intoxication and more)

Facilitators

The workshop will be facilitated by Gordon Angus and Gia Freese, who together have over 30 years’ experience in industrial relations, disciplinary enquiries, and dispute resolution at the CCMA and bargaining councils.
